'Green' house on the market

TIFTON, GA (WALB)- If you are in the market for a new home, Tifton has one you won't find anywhere else. After years of careful planning and construction, Tifton's Green House is now on the market.

And ironically, the house of the future is nestled in between two homes in Tifton's historic district, and it's designed to fit right in.

 In Tifton's historic district you'll find homes dating back to the 1900's, but one yellow house is very different.

Hurricane Season starts next week

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- The 2013 Atlantic Hurricane season will officially start June 1st and experts are calling for an above average season that could be just as bad, if not worse, than last year.  

Following a year that produced Super Storm Sandy, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issuing its 2013 prediction.

"For the six-month hurricane season which will start June 1st NOAA predicts and above normal and possibly an extremely active hurricane season," said Kathryn Sullivan, Acting Commerce Undersecretary.

Tift Co. teammates, best friends sign wrestling scholarships

TIFTON, GA (WALB)- They won't be tag team wrestling, but a pair of Tift County Blue Devil grapplers will be attending the same school on wrestling scholarships.

Beau Bergeron and teammate Malcom Robinson will both be attending Pratt Junior College in Pratt, Kansas after signing letters of intent Thursday.

Bergeron took third place at the 2013 Six A State Wrestling Championships in the 220 pound weight class, while Robinson won the 1-AAAAA Region Title.

The two say they've been best friends since kindergarten, and that makes signing together even more special.

Blue Devils hosting "Farmers for Football" camp

TIFTON, GA (WALB)- The Tift County Blue Devils football team is hoping to teach youngsters the fundamentals of the game, and they'll have area farmers and businesses helping out.

The team is hosting their "Farmers for Football" camp May 30-June 1 at the Parks and Rec fields.

The camp is open to boys in Grades 1-6, and is free to all who turn in a registration packet.

The camp is free because the team is asking for donations from area farmers and businesses to cover costs.

'Farm to Table' is Lily Pad Center Fundraiser

ALBANY, GA (WALB)-  A Dougherty County rape crisis center hopes to raise $15,000 at a tasty event Thursday night at the Merry Acres Event Center.

 The Lily Pad Center provides support services to more than 300 child victims and roughly 150 adults every year. About two hundred people are expected to show up for the fourth annual 'Farm to Fork' Fundraiser.

Attendees will be fed a southern style meal featuring organic chicken, fresh produce and boiled peanuts, all donated by nearby farmers.

Metro Albany's unemployment rate declines to 8.6% in April

ATLANTA, GA (WALB)-  ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that metro Albany's unemployment rate declined to 8.6 percent in April, down three-tenths of a percentage point from 8.9 percent in March. The rate was 9.2 percent in April a year ago.

The rate declined as the number of jobs in metro Albany increased by 200 to 61,200, up from 61,000 in March. Most of the growth came in retail trade and state government.

Jobs were unchanged at 61,200 over the year.

WORTH CO., GA (WALB)- Right now, American Red Cross volunteers are at work in Oklahoma staffing shelters and serving meals and helping tornado survivors put their lives back together.

We all know the Red Cross is there during those big disasters. But the emergency to which they respond most is a house fire, and they desperately need volunteers to help.

Seven months ago, a Worth County yard was the site of a 3,200 square foot house. The Jones family hammered every nail during construction.
