Scott Named Subcommittee Chairman

House Agriculture Committee Chairman, Frank D. Lucas of Oklahoma, today named U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) the Chairman for the Subcommittee on “Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology, and Foreign Agriculture” for the 113th Congress.

GA Power scholarship presented to ABAC

TIFTON, GA - An Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College employee was presented with a Georgia Power Scholarship worth $3,000 in October.

Lynn Lovett, the Georgia Power area manager gave Jodie Snow, ABAC the chief operating officer the scholarship on behalf of Georgia Power Inc.

The scholarship will benefit the ABAC General Scholarship Fund.

FITZGERALD, GA - Christmas pictures can be taken at Fitzgerald Church of God Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Professional photographer Dea Merritt will be taking the pictures.

The package fee for the pictures will be $30 and will include one 8x10 picture and two 5x7 pictures.

The package will also include 8 free wallet pictures if an unwrapped toy while taking pictures.

Fitzgerald Church of God is located at 601 S. Merrimac Drive.

Fall carnival at ABAC

TIFTON, GA – Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will have their family-friendly fall carnival Tuesday, October 30 at 6 p.m.

The carnival is for small children from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and from 8 p.m. -10 p.m. the museum will become “haunted” for older students. Entry to the carnival is free.

September unemployment rate for Tift County

TIFT COUNTY, GA – The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the preliminary unemployment rate in the Southwest Georgia area declined to 9.0 percent in September.

The rate declined primarily because there were 370 fewer layoffs in manufacturing, construction, retail trade, transportation and warehousing, administrative and support services, and accommodations and food services, plus 1,037 more people were employed.

The September unemployment rate for Tift County it is 9.7 percent.

Trick or Treat at ABAC fall frolics

Trick or Treat at ABAC fall frolics

TIFTON, GA – On Saturday, October 27 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Fall Frolics will feature trick-or-treating, zombie run and a one-mile family fun run.

Registration for the race will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the fee for this race is $5 per person to participate.

Trick or Treat in the Village will feature a variety of events for young and old. The Cloggers Jamboree will provide entertainment from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Visitors can take part in the costume contests at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
