In a 5-to-2 decision, the Georgia Supreme Court has determined that a man convicted of murder in Tift County deserves a hearing on whether certain evidence was properly admitted at trial. And if it was not properly admitted, he deserves a new trial.

Cary Rhodes, 57 years of age, of Taylorsville, Georgia (Bartow County), was arrested on Thursday, October 27, 2011, by FBI agents and Task Force Officers after coming to the attention of undercover officers on the internet.

DeKalb co. schools speech pathologist pleads guilty to medicaid fraud

Kenneth A. Thisdale, a DeKalb County School System speech pathologist, pled guilty today in DeKalb County Superior Court to one count of Medicaid Fraud (O.C.G.A. § 49-4-146.1(b)) for a false billing scheme.

Thisdale was employed by a company which had entered into contracts to provide speech therapy services to students in DeKalb County Schools.

Many of the students who received therapy services pursuant to the contracts were Medicaid recipients.

On September 10, 2011 LPSO Detectives arrested a man for biting off the upper half of his roommate’s left ear.  The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred a few nights earlier at their residence on Arnold Road.

Deputies met with the victim at a convenience store on Arnold Road around 10:41 pm on Thursday September 8, 2011, where they gathered information on the whereabouts of the suspected ear biter.

Former Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) employees Gene Tell of East Point, 36, and Kristy Nicole Williams of Decatur, 28, were sentenced today in federal district court before Judge Thomas Thrash on one count of Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud and two counts of Wire Fraud relating to a scheme to defraud the United States Department of Agriculture by issuing fraudulent food stamp electronic benefit transaction ("EBT") cards.
