Fugitive Task Force, Tift Sheriff make two arrests

Tuesday afternoon, investigators with the Tift County Sheriff's Office and the US Marshall's Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested two people.

36 year old Charlie Frank Branner Junior of Vidalia and 31 year old Kristen Caprie Johnson of Reidsville are now in jail.

Branner is being charged with 2 counts of burglary in Telfair County; obstruction, giving a false name and for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Twiggs County and for a probation violation in Tift County as well as a statewide parole violation.

Oklahoma family reaches out through social media

ALBANY, GA (WALB)-  Some folks in South Georgia frantically tried to get in touch with loved ones who live near the destruction in Oklahoma.

Leesburg's Wendy Mathis has a brother who lives in Oklahoma City and works in Bethany, just 10 miles north of Moore.

She watched the devastation unfold on TV Monday afternoon and began texting her brother. She found out through social media her family was okay.

Who Killed Candy Cook?

TIFT CO., GA (WALB)- A Tift County cold case still haunts a family nearly 10 years a young mother's murder.

 It was September 2003 when the body of Candy Cook was discovered in a field near the Tift County airport. Her family believes someone knows who killed her, and they hope the person with that information will bring them the peace they need.

On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force along with the Tift County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant on the residence of 36 year old Daniel Eubanks located at 905 36th Street Tifton.

Oil is down, but gas isn't

BANGKOK (AP) - The price of oil fell Monday ahead of the release later this week of economic data from the U.S. and China, the world's two largest economies, and a speech by the Federal Reserve chief.

Benchmark crude for June delivery was down 55 cents to $95.47 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 86 cents to close at $96.02 a barrel on Friday.

Mother makes plea for missing daughter

ADEL, GA (WALB)- The Tift County Sheriff's investigators are still searching for clues to find a missing pregnant woman. Her mother is making a plea to find her daughter who hasn't been seen in more than two months.

AAA: More travelers to hit the road this summer

TIFTON, GA (WALB)- Most of you plan to hit the road this summer, according to AAA.

The group's study says 75% of Georgians plan to take a vacation between May and September.

That's up 15% from 2011 and 5% from last year.

We caught up with one man who already has summer plans and a gas station worker who's geared for the summer rush.

"I'm going to Washington pretty soon. I went last year, but my dad just wants to go up there and check out the museums," said driver Jay Davis.
